After reading Atomic Habits I started trying out some stuff for myself. I didn’t go overboard but started very small. Carving out 15min in the morning to do a HIIT training. Around that time I also watched several Wim Hof videos and decided to throw some parts of that method into my morning routine.
After about 2 months it turned into the morning routine I still do every morning. I start with the breathing exercise, then the HIIT and close off a 2-4 min cold shower. In all, it takes me around 30 to 35 min. This is quite easy to allocate since working remotely has become the de-facto standard nowadays.
Did it make a difference?
It is actually hard to say. Since the start of my morning routine, I ran 2 marathons and did some endurances races on the bike. But I’m not sure if I couldn’t have done it without the morning routine. But I think it did help, it could be because of the compounding effect. Which is slow but steady, moving you in a certain direction without big noticeable steps. I do however feel a certain kind of awkwardness when I skip my morning routine. There is something about it that makes it feel nice…
