No CEO care about “agile”
No CTO care about “agile”
No CFO care about “agile”
No CMO care about “agile”
….
What they care about are results and outcomes.
They care about improvements
They care about doing things better
They care about delighting customers
They care about market agility and effective product management
They care about winning in the market
So focus on that.
I read this quote recently on LinkedIn. I have the same experience.
But how do you focus on results and outcomes, on doing things better, delighting the customers, market agility, effective product management, winning in the market?
The engineering team will need to put software projects in terms that management understands and cares about. The team should explore the options for achieving the set goals by investigating all aspects that can be useful. All options will have pros and cons. It is up to management to decide which to choose and go for based on criteria they care about: as quickly as possible, as economical as possible, or with as little risk as possible.
When an option is chosen, the engineering team will need to show progress to the management team clearly.
When insights change or progress is different from expected, the new insights forces the engineering team re-evaluate the options. These options can again be presented to management in facts and figures.
